Learning in the Real World
Phase Five has developed a positve learning relationship with the teacher-educators of the Kapila Khandwala Teachers' Training College through our programmes specially designed to benefit young teachers. Our first Workshop for 120 Training teachers at Kapila Khandvala College of Education, Mumbai at the Seminar ‘Creative Initiatives in Education- Towards Building an Enduring Society' organized by the staff of Kapila Khandvala College of Education on 13th January, 2003.We explored the concepts of participative democracy in classrooms, skils of representation, negotiation, listening in groups, and the importance of minority views and dissent in a group. Our second workshop was part of their focussed curriculum on Global Citizenship Education in August 2003, once again working with a fresh batch of enthusiastic teacher-educators.Our involvement in the Global ITE programme continues with our involvement in their global conference being held in January 2004, that will bring together participants from Africa, U.K and India in an effort to share experiences, success stories and obstacles in creating globally aware citizens in educational institutions and the role of teachers in this movement.
