Programmes

A Phase Five programme, whether it be a camp, workshop or work project, is a forum for individuals and organizations from various backgrounds and sectors to meet and interact with each other and to explore possibilities of future, long-term supportive relationships. We do not feel that any final and universal answers evolve during such programmes. Yet, a process of reintegration can begin, connecting Self, Society and Planet.

Our programme series was aimed at enabling individuals to dream of a better, cleaner world where:

  • Negotiation and reconciliation replace conflict and
  • war
  • Social responsibility, entrepreneurial spirit and young leadership cure apathy and fatalism
  • Care for the earth stops damage to our environment for short term gains
  • Democratic decision making supercedes autocratic control and
  • Respect for dissent and a celebration of diversity answer fundamentalism and violence

Living Democracy

A team-game that involves 3 groups in a conflict situation. It aims to show how the mechanism of democracy also requires the culture for it; that this culture must be present at every level from the family to the nation; that to represent does not mean to rule; that democracy without participation is a contradiction; the significance of diversity, consensus, respect for dissent, human-rights and equality.

Staying Alive

This fun team game, draws out issues of competition, cooperation, rich-world poor-world conflict, non-renewable resources, food-security, laws of nature and environmental stability.

Us and Them

This session points out the dangers of mental rigidity, failure to think for oneself, dependence on the party-line, centralized sources of unquestioned authority and of being manipulated through one's personal prejudice. It explores the reasons and implications of fundamentalism. An interactive group session, it is supported by optional documentaries/case histories, that look at this phenomenon in the fields of business, science, medicine, art and of course, politics and religion.

Games People Play

A Role Play Game which helps participants to understand and observe common roles as they are being played. It demonstrates that just like elements in nature; families, groups and communities also have systems of balance and equilibrium and that lasting change requires a change in the culture of a whole group rather than in just the apparently dysfunctional individuals.

The Value of Belonging

A high energy game that demonstrates issues of belonging and the relationship of parts to a whole. Further, it establishes the connections between individual initiative and collective interest. Issues of ethics, loyalty, belonging, entrepreneurship, intrapreneurship, and the individual's web of relationships at multiple levels are showcased.

The Question of ‘I'

A personal space to understand oneself at the level of identity, or ‘who we are'. Individuals in small groups express what identities they relate to most in situations and what about ‘who they are' motivates or disturbs them. It brings out the link between individual identity based actions and global issues, the right of an individual to an individual identity and the desirability of diversity. It also helps us face identity issues arising from social conditioning based on culture, education, religion and class.

Learning Expeditions

It's a connected world - we are not in isolation any more and neither are our various issues and problems. Learning Expeditions organized by Phase 5 are an opportunity to challenge your reality with a wider world view.

Through these expeditions we offer a multi dimensional view of development in India; deeper insight into diverse lifestyles, regional awareness, opportunities , exploration of success stories and best practices in the fields of environment, governance, economics, religion, conflicts, urban and rural life, health and various other arenas. It is also a space to developing alliances with people, particularly youth, towards holistic local and global initiatives.
