Beyond Borders Project
Phase Five was commissioned by the British Council to help with the formation of a core-team of 12 youth (18 – 22 year olds) as a local chapter of Beyond Borders. Beyond Borders is an initiative by young people from India , Bangladesh , Pakistan , Sri Lanka and the UK supported by the British Council as a part of their Connecting Futures programme which involves youth from over 100 countries.
From an early involvement with the youth during the processes of orientation, personal interviews and selections for the programme Phase Five went on to its primary role in the design and execution of their Life Skills Camp. This was the start of ongoing facilitation and mentorship of the group for a period of 3 months during which it will execute its first project.
The Life Skills Camp was held at Asia Plateau the Conference Centre for Initiative of Change over a period of four days (17-21 April, 2006). Each day was dedicated to one of the four themes: Self, Group Work, Global Issues and Ideas to Action. Participants also did daily practical work with nature on the campus – cleaning a gully for repairs to the check dams and mulching a nursery for ayurvedic plants.
The Beyond Borders team has started work on their two action projects in the city: High on Life (on drug abuse) and H 2 OME – Water & Me (on water conservation) They may be contacted at bbmumbai @ gmail.com
